Woggles for the Cub Scouts of Troop 824
Westchester, California

Lindsey and Jimmy attended scout meeting. There were 5 Cubs, all about ten years old.

Lindsey give a short presentation on proper and safe ways to use ropes and knots. He had also prepared some instructions for 3Lx4B1, 4Lx3B2, & 4Lx5B3 Turk’s Head Knots, all of which are forms of the woggle. We decided to teach the 3Lx4B THK first, and the evening was pretty much taken up with the that one. We did, however leave the instructions for all of the knots with the leader.  

With so few Scouts, it was pretty much a one on one session, which the boys seemed to enjoy. The young men were very attentive and I think a couple of them may actually be able to reproduce the knot with a little effort.

The IGKT-PAB hosts an exhibit each year for Earth Day. Mike, Jimmy, and Lindsey displayed knots and items made from natural fibers and showed the public how to make rope.

Exhibits and Demonstrations at
Ventura County Maritime Museum's
19th anniversary

Light turnout but those who attended were delighted. Vicky Paula, Mike Bromeley, and Lindsey Philpott respresented the guild.

Fellow exhbitor, Glenn Hening, showed Peruvian surfboards made from reeds.  These were recreated in the style for boats as shown on ancient temple walls.  There was lots of lively discussion with the knot tyers on how the original lashings may have been constructed.
