Tuesday, May 11

Despite the low turnout of numbers (Jimmy, Jose and Lindsey only!) we had a splendid time making rope in preparation for our foray into old-fashioned rope-making at the Rancho Los Cerritos Rancho Summer Days (see separate report).  Jose had very kindly turned a top for Lindsey to use, made from Lignum vitae old stocks on his home lathe.  The top is used to separate the individual strands when making rope by machine.  Note the Patent date!  We also discussed that the Guild’s AGM had occurred and, sad to report, Andy Dart and Ken Higgs had both passed away a short time before the meeting.  Our condolences to both families; this is a very sad loss and hits us all hard, not only in losing their friendship, skills and talents but also because we are so small in numbers worldwide.

March 2010

Welcome two new members William Pierce and Ben "Tiny" Saint!  "Tiny", a crew member from LAMI, joined at the meeting.  The group agreed on the demonstrations for the year (of course new ones may be added). Mike Bromley did a demonstration on how to make a Fiador Knot.  Click here to see a video.

February 2010

A cold and wet February in San Pedro brought together fellow knot tyers for some warm conversation and friendship. Jimmy (behind the camera), Mike, Lindsey, Jose, Charlie, and Alton(Al) A Wright, Jr., were the usual suspects.  A wealth of knowledge between them!
